Depending on what time you will be arriving, it should be between 3 and 4 hours drive. From Calais, there are 2 options:

- highway A26, direction ARRAS-REIMS until you change to highway A1 direction Paris. The A1 is one of the busiest highways in France with lot of traffic and lots of trucks

- highway A16 direction AMIENS. The A16 ends in L%26#39;ISLE ADAM. Depending on where you go in paris (East/West...) you will take different directions:

* going to East of Paris: take N104/A104 direction CHARLES DE GAULLE-ROISSY and from there, take the A1 to Paris

* going to West of Paris: take N184 until you get to freeway A115 and change again to freeway A15. It is well signposted, no need to worry. After this, there are several options: going to Porte de Clichy and get to Paris Centre or arrive though West side of Paris by Porte Maillot. For this, from A15 take freeway A86 to LA DEFENSE

Personnally, I would go for A16, even if there are more change. The A16 is very quiet compared to the A1. Most navigation system would give A1 as the best itinerary.

Avoid peak hours in Paris. If you can get to L%26#39;ISLE ADAM after 10am, you%26#39;ll be ok.

thank you very much, you have been most helpful.

And I think the A16 is prettier. It follows the coast towards Boulogne then has a more undulating hillier route down to Paris than the A1 which monotously follows the high speed rail line all the way in. The A16 is just a mere ten minutes longer journey according to satnav.
