Gare de Lyon to Geneva

Will be travelling to Geneva on the 6th Aug at 13:10 from paris Gare de Lyon. I will be staying near to Vavin metro (Hotel le Six). Questions:

- Is it easy to navigate around Gare De Lyon, to make sure i don%26#39;t miss my train!! (are there signs in English?)

- How long will it take on the metro from vavin?

- What time would you consider %26#39;comfortable%26#39; to get there for a 13:10 departure?

Your expert advise is most appreciated!

yes, it%26#39;s easy to get around Gare de Lyon. just look out for the signs in english...

Yes and no. Gare de Lyon has two separate concourses. The main concourse, the one that the %26quot;Le Train Blue%26quot; resto presides over, is easy to see if your train is leaving from one of those platforms. I%26#39;ve found that, regardless of my destination, the train is often leaving from the %26quot;annex%26quot; platforms at the northeast corner of the station. With the current construction work in progress, this concourse is accessible only through the ticketing pavilion. I%26#39;d recommend that you locate both concourses well before your departure time so when the departure track is announced, you%26#39;ll know where you%26#39;re going.

Gare de Lyon is one of the worst train stations, but that doesn%26#39;t make it difficult.

Just make sure that you know where the blue zone and the yellow zones are and pay attention to which of the zones your train is leaving from.

Thank you for all your sound advise.

Does the station not have an electronic board with live departure times and platforms in English? Are announcements in English too?

Suppose if i do get confused i could ask for help at an infomation booth using my very limited French!!

Just read the boards and screens. You don%26#39;t have to listen to announcements. The platforms are revealed generally exactly 20 minutes before departure. The boarding time limit is 2 minutes before departure.

About the only word on departure boards that you may not be familiar with is Quai which is Platform. This will have a letter or a number (depending which part of the station it is). Apart from this it gives the train number, the departue time, the final destination and a list of the intermediate stations. There are also boards at the entrance to each platform where you will also find the yellow machines to date/time stamp your ticket. I would be comfortable getting to the station at about 12.30 as it is rather more complicated than most stations.
