Just wanted to drop a quick recommendation for lunch at Taillevent. My wife and I left the kids with the sitter and did a little %26quot;couple time.%26quot;
Having eaten at many nice restaurants in NYC, SF, Napa, LA, and San Diego (home town), we were still very impressed with the food and service at Taillevent. There is a reason this place has maintained their 3 michelin stars for over 3 decades.
We chose the lunch menu which is %26quot;only%26quot; 80 euros, a veritable bargain. And, in June, they have a promo running where wine is included with the lunch menu! We also had a reservation at Guy Savoy, but the wine promo tilted us towards Taillevent.
Everything was excellent, but especially remarkable was the veloute de crustace. By far the best %26quot;soup%26quot; I have ever had--the essence of seafood in a bowl.

Very tempting...
I though they lost a star a few years back, but maybe it was just a rumor.
|||
I think it lost a star in 2007, but I am sure greater gourmets than I can correct me if I am wrong.
|||
It did lose a star: but that doesn%26#39;t stop it from being one of the truly great dining experiences. We were blown away by Taillevent when we went to lunch there in 2005 - so much so that we celebrated by 41st birthday there in 2007. (The foie gras roasted in vine leaves and teamed with a very old madeira was a revelation.)

I stand corrected. Taillevent did lose their 3rd star in 2007, but you would never know from the experience. I wish I had a) more money and b) more time to spend in Paris to do a truly comprehensive %26quot;review%26quot; of all the top restaurants in Paris and (for that matter) France. Maybe next year...

Taillevent is a superb restaurant. I have had many fine meals there.
It is so sad now, not to see Jean-Claude Vrinat. He was such a perfect gentleman and host.
There are many good starred restaurants.with the lunch specials. It is a way for many to experience what a starred restaurant is all about.
You mentioned Guy Savoy..another great spot...
Enjoy..

I have a lunch reservation at Guy Savoy in September with a US friend of mine. I am very curious to see how that is, re.: food, service and overall hospitality.

I just took a quick look at the Taillevent website it looks like the wine offer has carried on into July as well.
