Completely special Restaurant

We are 4 yummy mummies celebrating a big %26#39;something 0%26#39; birthday in St.Tropez. The restaurants are numerous....

Can someone who knows the area, give us some honest advice on a restaurant to celebrate in, that is magical, not-to-be- forgotten, view-to-die-for, food-to-die-for, full of character (NOT ultra Stark modern), outdoor terraces, similar to Column D%26#39;Or etc ?

I have a list of about 6 or 7 possibles.

thanks !

In my opinion, the food in St. Tropez, regardless of price, is mediocre. At many of the %26quot;top%26quot; restaurants, you can have pasta or sushi. Very odd. At Le Girelier, a beautiful, expensive restaurant, in a great location on the Port, the pasta was so bad that our Italian friends said that Italy should break off diplomatic relations with France!

Hmmmm..... shame you did not have a more positive experience.

Still, there must be something positive out there

anyone?

Hi Carolyn:

Five of us girls did the special %26quot;0%26quot; you know the number before (4) in St. Tropez. Our special dinner was at La Villa Romana. The food was medicore and very pricy. That being said, we enjoyed the show - there%26#39;s models walking around, beautiful people and a cheesy starwars theme when they bring you your cake. It really was a place to see and be seen. The only other restaurants we tried were: Cafe du Paris, Joseph%26#39;s and Spoons. I have to agree, that none of the food was spectacular in St. Tropez except the crepe %26amp; pannini stands which I love. Also, the snack bars at Pampelonne beach are very good. Hope you girls have a wonderful time.

If you%26#39;re looking for a touch of luxury, take a look at the 4-star Hotel Chateau de La Messardiere.

They have 2 restaurants: the Terra Cotta that serves lunch by the pool and the more formal gastronomic (prices sure reflect this) Trois Saisons restaurant.

The hotel setting is memorable. You can take a peek from their web site: http://www.messardiere.com. If only their prices were more reasonable.

The La Ponche restaurant in St Tropez never disappoints. We%26#39;re not talking plush mansions such as Messardiere%26#39;s here, but good food and service by the port of La Ponche.

Enjoy!

Thanks for your recommendation. It looks lovely and the food choices appear extra special too.

We have narrowed it down to 3:

Chateau de la Messardiere

Villa Belrose

Le Grand Joseph

Which would you go for?

The other thing, very importnat, we are there 14 Oct.

No guarantees I know, but is it warm enough to eat

%26#39;al fresco%26#39; in the evening - the terraced tables are the best.

In October it will be getting dark early. So both Villa Belrose and Chateau de la Messardiere have terraces which maybe heated and you will be looking out on twinkling lights. Le Grand Joseph is in town but is on the corner of two quiet streets so with no views apart from buildings. I would go for the one where you think you will enjoy the food more.

If you are going to Messiadare or Belrose, and are new to St. Tropez, you should think about transportation to those hotels. Driving those roads, in the dark, is not fun.

I think the hotels would be perfect for couples but not yummy mummies sorry you need to be in town for sure ......
