L'Espadon at the Ritz - tux & long dress too dressy?

Hi everyone,

I have made dinner reservations for L%26#39;Espadon on a Saturday night, and asked them whether a tux and couture gown or suit %26amp; tie and cocktail dress would be more appropriate.

The answer was suit %26amp; tie and cocktail dress is more appropriate.

I am really disappointed in this as I%26#39;d like to dine somewhere in Paris where I can wear my wedding reception dress again as I%26#39;m spending a fortune on it but only wearing it for 2 hours at the actual wedding (not by choice, mind you!).

Where can we dress up if not at the Ritz? Maybe they were picturing a big ball gown instead of what I have in mind? These are the kinds of dresses I was referring to: http://www.bora.com.au/news_13.htm

Would a tux really be out of place at the Ritz?

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, it would really be totally out of place. People would stare, and not in a good way.

Thanks kerouac2. Can you recommend somewhere in Paris where we can dress up this way, or is there no such thing?

Is dress already purchased? If not maybe you can go shorter or Tea Length and that would work for Ritz.

bmanley, the dress has already been ordered. It%26#39;s for our wedding reception, not to wear to the Ritz. I just wanted to go somewhere in Paris fancy enough to wear the dress again.

beautiful dress! I bet you wouldn%26#39;t have time after the wedding to get it shortened and have it as a cocktail dress - that way you would get alot of use out of it!

|||

I don%26#39;t see you dining in a dress like that anywhere in Paris unless it%26#39;s an event with dress code specified as %26quot;Black Tie%26quot;.

In all honesty, I don%26#39;t recall seeing anyone dressed in gowns for New Year%26#39;s Eve at top Paris restaurants (Crillon, Le Meurice %26amp; Ritz included).

With that said, I would leave your gown %26amp; tux at home and wait for an occasion to present itself in order not to feel/look out of place on your trip.

BBKeeper,

LEAVE THE DRESS and the TUX at HOME!!!

You will have a much more wonderful experience in Paris if you dress in accordance to the city%26#39;s standards, as opposed to what you have contrived in your dreams.

As in most major important places/big cities (NYC, London,Rome etc...) dressing up as you are thinking about doing to go out to go to dinner is JUST NOT DONE !!!

I think for New Year%26#39;s eve maybe it would be ok or a special gala event... but frankly if you feel like celebrating in your own way, go for it. After all you could be coming from a gala event elsewhere.

fro4600, we leave the day after our wedding for our honeymoon so no won%26#39;t be able to get the dress shortened. The dress in the picture isn%26#39;t actually the dress I%26#39;m getting, but same label and similar fancy look (and I don%26#39;t think the style can be shortened actually).

Thank you so much for your advice everyone, much appreciated. The dress %26amp; tux will stay at home...

So will a little black dress suffice for the Ritz then?
