Paris to Versailles friday afternoon suicide or a good idea

we are planning to try and avoid the weekend crowds but we are only in paris for 4 days is it a good idea to leave a bit later in the day (recommended on TA) and turn up 2/3pm on a friday ??

will buy tickets online beforehand , when is the fountain show ? is it worth staying later to eat in Versailles or is it a tourist trap ?.

Any idea of the last trains back to paris and the journey time ?

Sorry for all the questions ... don%26#39;t fancy a Saturday ( or any days really ) stuck in crazy crowds , in paris 20th to 24th aug ) i know perfect crowd season .....

Get a museum pass....or it will take you 2 hrs to get in...it will also cover the triannons and the MA hamlet if your intersted in treking down to that corner of the gardens.

Fountain show is at 10.30 and 3 from memory, but only on the weekends, so friday is no good if thats important to you

good news is that 2/3pm on a friday is as good a time as any to avoid the crowds, as its much worse on the weekends due to the fountain show...go figure...but it is summer, so your chances of avoiding a crowd are not that great at any time to be honest.

Last trains get to the end of their line at around 1 am, RER time to paris is 30 minutes, so a late train back to paris should leave around 12, providing the RER line is running. Check this before you leave Paris, they have been working on the RER line C for the last month, you may need to take the SNCF train instead and pick up the metro back to paris from Montparnesse.

Never eaten in the town so cant help you there

Have Fun

We visited the Gardens of Versailles on a Friday last July. It was certainly busy then but I%26#39;m sure less busier than the weekend.

If you only have a short amount of time, I would suggest you hire a golf buggy to get about the gardens. We have done this in the last two chateaux we have visited (Valencay and Vaux le Vicomte) and certainly helps in getting around faster (driving the buggy is great fun too, I must admit the buggy was the attraction for me rather than ease of viewing)

A damage deposit of €150 is usually required plus a driving licence. The damage deposit is only a formality unless you do something incredibly bad.
