travel from channel tunnel to ?Thiviers

Hello

we are considering holidaying in the Dordogne (Thiviers area) can anyone please advise where would be a good area to break the car journey from Channel Tunnel? Also ideas of time it takes to get there seem to vary (7 - 10+ hours) has anyone done the journey and how was it?

Thanks for your help.

Hi, We will be traveling next friday to Sarlat stopping over in Orleans.

We are taking the route to Rouen and so on, missing Paris as there is loads of traffic, Le Mans is another option for you to stop over. We will let you know how long, time and what the jouney was like when we return.

hello

thanks for the message. We have decided to book the holiday and worry about the journey later!! Please do let me know how you get on. I have done a routemaster route on the internet and it says about 7 hours from calais (we would stop en route, as we are travelling from Gloucestershire, so would be interested in your choice of route, and if you find some good accomodation for one night!! Hope you have a lovely time.

In view of te length of your drive to get to the Tunnel, you might consider stopping somewhere a bit further north such as Chartres.

Thanks for the advice, will look into it!

Hi Julie,

I have just looked up Gloucester and its a long way to Folkstone have you thought about going on the fast ferry (3hrs) from Portsmouth to Caen a much quicker journey to Thiviers. We are going Folkstone/Calais on way and Caen/Portsmouth on way back only because we couldnt get fast ferry on way out fully booked.Hope this helps?

Hi there - we have considered the fast ferry, but sadly one of our party can%26#39;t travel by boat because of an inner ear problem and some of the rest of us just get sick! I hope that by allowing plenty of time for the journey (and stopovers) it shouldn%26#39;t be too bad (fingers crossed!!)

Thanks for your input x

Hi Julie,

Well we had a fab time but the weather was too HOT!! for us.

We travelled by Motorhome for first time, so our av speed was 60/65mph the roads are great we went on the Rouen, Chartres,Orleans,Chateauroux,Limoges route from the Channel Tunnel to sarlet and went on 3 Toll roads total cost 31 euros NO!! HOLDUPS any where we stopped over in Dreux only because we didnt want to drive anymore.

In every Town there are loads of adverts for Hotels. If you would like to stop in a City then Rouen and Orleans are great (been there before)Old wooden houses and cobbled stone streets and Big Churches worth a visit. When staying in Thrivers you must visit Brantome we stopped there on our way back its Stunning they call it little venice, and if you can go to Beynac, La Rogue and go on a canoe down the Dordogne river you will love it.

I cant remember how many miles it was from the Tunnel but from Essex to Sarlet it was app 600

I hope this helps

Happy Holiday

Lynn

Thanks Lynn - sounds like you had a great holiday! after this week%26#39;s rain %26#39;too hot%26#39; seems tempting!! Will definitely try canoeing on the Dordogne.. Have decided upon the Rouen route outwards and the Paris route on the way home. Many thanks. Julie
