Early morning flight at CDG on a Sunday - please advise :)

Hello all,

its my girlfriends and I%26#39;s first time to France. We have a flight leaving CDG airport at 7.05am with check in closing at 6.25 am from terminal 2B.

We are staying at the Hotel de Sejour which is 1.9kms away from Gare du Nord. Apparently the first train is at 4.56am, does anyone know if this is on a Sunday?

Can you please advise with your experiences how we should get to the airport so as not to miss our flight.

With great thanks, it is much appreciated

You should be in a taxi on your way to the airport no later than 04h30. I think taking the train leaves no margin for error.

|||

If you catch the first RER train, you should be at the airport by 5:30 a.m.

I have taken that RER at 4:56 more than once and it is completely reliable. It is used by a lot of airport employees, and they cannot afford to be late either. It arrives at 5:30 as mentioned.

One important thing to know about this train is that it does not leave from the underground RER station. It leaves from the normal suburban surface level station one level up.

Assuming you are flying back home - which would be a very expensive flight to miss - I%26#39;d stay at the airport.

You can get a room on Hotwire or Priceline%26#39;s Name Your Own Price for about 100 USD so it doesn%26#39;t have to be expensive.

If the flight is a short one to somewhere else in Europe take Metromole%26#39;s advice.

Our flight home 3 weeks ago was about an hour later than yours. We had a free hotel in the city proper so we didn%26#39;t elect to move hotels to one where we would have to pay by the airport.

We pre-arranged a taxi with our hotel the night before and then took that. With our luggage and the time crunch it was worth it for the taxi. Also for us, we would have been on the metro and would have had to buy a zone 6 ticket so it was only 10 euro cheaper than the cab fare.

That 10 euros is worth our sanity of just being dropped off at the curb.

There will be little to no traffic on a Sunday so you don%26#39;t have to worry about traffic jams at that time which helps too.

while 3 hours is the rule of thumb at CDG -- for very early flights, things may not be open that early and it generally doesn%26#39;t take quite as long -- for an 11 am flight 3 hours is definitely the right choice

I would still not chance arriving an hour ahead -- that is not enough time to check in and make it through security - you want at least a couple of hours

take a cab -- no later than 4:30 -- never cut a high stakes flight too close -- stuff does happen -- it has happened to us several times in years of travel but we have never missed such a flight because we are very conservative in planning high stakes airport travel and always have time for the unexpected

staying at the airport the last night is also good advice -- but the traffic is light then so if you have good local arrangements, then arranging a cab the night before will also work well

I%26#39;ll echo the taxi advice. Your hotel will pre-book a taxi for you and that should be the most stress free option.

|||

Also, depending upon your airline check-in/baggage check and departure gate, it can be a REALLY long walk between the two. Like many above have said, why cut it close and make yourselves nervous wrecks? The flights are exhausting enough as it is.

|||

I see some amazing illogical reactions here, since trains are much more reliable than taxis.

How many of you other than me have ever actually taken the RER at 4:56?

(For those worried about long international flights, there are absolutely none that leave that early from CDG, because that is when the long international flights are ARRIVING from North American and Asia. Hey, I work for an airline that flies out of CDG, but what do I know?)
