Provencal fabric

I%26#39;m looking for a shop in Nice that sells provencal fabric by the yard or meter. Thanks.

Toto ave malaussena - from the railway bridge at top of jean medecin =-go under the bridge its then the second Toto shop you come to right hand side of teh street - the first is mainly haberdashery though it also has a few things like voile.

The second shop has the Provençal fabric down the steps at the back of the shop -on the left hand side -but not in the left hand alcove

hope that makes sense-the staff are nice anyway

Souleaido (known as Pierre Deux here in USA) and Les Olivades both sell very high quality provencal fabric, with prices to match! I%26#39;ve bought both brands and had them made into table cloths and napkins back home; even though they are cotton, with proper handling you can take them out of the dryer, smooth them a bit and not need to iron them.

Both of these manufacturers have stores all over France, and I%26#39;m sure it would be easy to find them in Nice; I%26#39;ve not looked for them there. You could probably do a google search before you go and get the exact location.

Toto is sells reasonable quality fabric at fairly low prices to ordinary folk who do dressmaking and crafts - so the Provençal fabrics they sell is the typical brightly coloured Provençal stuff - yellows and blues, reds etc rather than more arty glossy mag stuff in subdued colours

If you are only going to be in Nice the places where you can find %26quot;true%26quot; Provencal fabric will be somewhat limited, as much of the best of this fabric (known as les indiennes, because it is based upon patterns that originated in Southern Asia )comes from Western Provence. The best known manufacturers are Les Olivades in St. Etienne de Gres, and Souleiado in Tarascon, and they not only sell fabric by the yard but also sell wonderful clothing - it%26#39;s an acquired taste, but once you have it you are hooked!

Hope you have a chance to travel West!

It%26#39;s been awhile since we have been there, but, the last time we were in St.-Paul-de-Vence, both Souleiado and Les Olivades had shops on rue Grande.

Many thanks for these excellent suggestions. My wife and I will be in Nice in the near future and will look for the Toto shop on Ave Malaussena. We will also be taking a day trip to St. Paul and will go to Olivades and Souleiado. Fun adventures to look forward to.
