Hotel D'Albe St. Michel Neighborhood

This hotel is rated #81 and looks very nice with a lot of restaurants and shops nearby, as seen on Google Maps, but a friend of mine who has been to Paris many times says that it is very close to a slum area and he would not stay there. Comments please. Thanks. Carlybaby.

A slum in the very center of Paris across from Notre Dame? Not likely. It is a very busy area and likely to be noisy unless the windows are double-paned. However, the hotel gets very good reviews. I wouldn%26#39;t hesistate to stay there unless you prefer somewhere not directly in the heart of the action.

There are throngs of tourists until all hours, so the principal problem could be noise, but it is an ideal location for someone who wants to be right in the center of things.

My advice would be to avoid the great majority of the restaurants in the area, since they exist ONLY for tourists. The %26#39;Bacteria Alley%26#39; nickname of rue de la Huchette is totally unjustified (or else those places would be closed down), but there is little charm in eating in a fake Greek taverna when you are in the Latin Quarter of Paris.
