Dining Advice

My girlfriend and I are staying near garden de luxembourg over the weekend of 31st July for her 30th birthday.

Would it be advisable to book our evening meals in advance or just sort when we get there? We like the idea of just going as we please but are worried all the good places require prior reservations.

Any suggestions around this area for good, honest food in nice surroundings would also be appreciated as it is our first time and a special occassion and wouldnt like to risk a poor night out as we are only there for 2!

Many thanks

for fancy places book well in advance

for nice small neighborhood bistros, book the day before or sometimes even the afternoon of -- it is not unusual for these small places to book up -- and people tend to spend the evening over dinner

you will be able to to just walk in many places but the best spots do tend to fill up --

I shall encourage you to always reserve at a restaurant (not necessarily at a café) when in France.

Should you be interested in Sarastro%26#39;s 13 lucky rules for dining in Paris (I know, blatant self-promotion), they are available here:

I strongly second Sarastro%26#39;s reco to make a reservation at any place other than a café. It%26#39;s subtle but the welcome is just a bit warmer, your table might be better too, when you reserve.
