One week in Calvi- what to explore?

Staying one week in Calvi this summer.

Never been to Corsica before, so tips on some highlights would be good.

Will rent car for 2 days, anyone have suggestions on where to drive?

Also, tips on where to go for swimming/beach around Calvi is welcome :-)

Calvi has a long sandy town beach. Without a car, you can either use that one or take the little train along the coast. I haven%26#39;t used the train myself but I think it goes past Algajola and Ile Rousse. I thought Algajola was nice, though small.

You will need your car to go inland so you might save it for that. It%26#39;s nice to drive up past Calenzana to A Flatta ( clearly signed) where there is a large car park. You can then walk up the path (also clearly signed) into the mountains where it is utterly beautiful and there is a lovely river to paddle/swim in. Take a snack lunch. You could have a drink or dinner at A Flatta on the way home (excellent food).

If you look at a map you will also see %26quot;foret domainiale%26quot; marked in the hills behind Calvi. Again there is a car park at the end of this road and lovely walks. There are places to eat up there too.

Thanks for your tips, looking forward to exploring them :-)

If you want a change from swimming in the sea, about half hours drive from Calvi will get you to the Fangu river - drive along the D351 between Ponte Vecchia (spelling?) and Monte Estremo - stop at any of the parking spots and make your way through the scrub to crystal clear (and warm) swimming pools along the length of the river. Some are really big and deep enough to dive in. You could also do an hours walk or so each way between PV and Tuarelli (cross over either bridge and follow the orange blobs of paint)with a swim stop in the middle - take plenty of drinking water and a hat though! (If you start at Tuarelli there is a bar/pizzeria at PV for a break at the half way stage)

On one of the days you have a car, go up into the hills to Sant%26#39; Antonio - very picturesque hill top town and a great place for a coffee / beer / lunch. Horse rides also availabel from the car park.

From Calvi you can cath the train to Ille Rousse which is great fun and stops all the way along coast so lots of beaches to explore. Aljagola is lovely and worth a visit - has a very long beach which is great if not too windy.

Calvi itself is great fun to explore - the citadel is a must - and Ille Rousse old town is magical - the covered market is a great place to shop for food.

Have fun - very envious!!
