staying in the vendee

Are considering staying in the vendee this August in a hotel and was wondering if anyone had stayed at the Hostellerie de la Pinede in Jard sur Mer (also known as Hotel du Parc de la Grange). If anyone has any other good recommendations for hotels near here I would be pleased to know. Also can%26#39;t quite decide which is best area to visit, the southern vendee or south Brittany / La Baule. Need good weather for the beach but also enjoy visiting small towns and tourist attractions with two teenage children.

We have been to Brittany for 2 years and more recently the Vendee for 2 years. We tend to go in June and undoubtedly the weather is better in the Vendee. We have stayed in Jard Sur Mer which is a small town with a port and great beaches close by. If you stay at L%26#39;Oceano D%26#39;Or camp site it is within easy walking distance of the town with bakeries, a deli, a couple of bars and a restaurant. The port with approx. 6 restaurants is about 20 mins walk from the town. Other towns with good markets are all within 20 minutes drive and one place to definately not miss is Le Puy De Fou (sometimes called Le Grand Parc) which is about an hour from Jard Sur Mer. It is the most fantastic theme park with great gardens, do not confuse it with places like Alton Towers as it has no roller coasters but a number of historical set pieces including a viking show. Not to be missed. La Rochelle is also within an hour and a bit from Jard.

We have just been on holiday to The Vendee, the nearest large beach being St Jean de Monts. Having also holidayed in the Loire Atlantic/Southern Brittany on many occasions I do not think you can beat La Baule for the beach. There are also lots of places of interest to visit. We stayed in a gite near Challons this year and although the weather was very changeable we still found lots of places to visit.
