Versailles back to Gare de Lyon station - is it possible?

Hi folks,

I%26#39;ll be visiting Versailles Sunday, August 9th and will plan on taking the RER C train from Paris to Versailles.

However, on the return I want to wind up back at Gare de Lyon station as I%26#39;d like to have dinner at Le Train Bleu which is at the Lyon station.

Does anyone know if it%26#39;s possible to take a train out of Versailles (Versailles-Rive Gauche terminal) directly to Gare de Lyon station in Paris?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Looking at my map, the answer is no. You will have to transfer to the metro or it looks like you could transfer at Porte Maillot to the RER A which would take you to Gare de Lyon. Get a good map when you get there.

There is no transfer from Versailles at Porte Maillot. It%26#39;s on a different branch of the RER-C. Except for this summer (stations in Paris closed for renovations), you would have been able to take the RER-C from Versailles Rive Gauche to Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz (then a short walk to gare de Lyon) but that leg of the RER is closed until the 22nd of August.

The most direct public transit option IMO is the RER-C to the %26quot;Champs de Mars - Tour Eiffel station and then change to bus-87 to Gare de Lyon.

Thanks guys...bummer, the some stations will be closed this summer! That%26#39;s a drag.

It sounds like the best way to go is to take the RER line from Rive Gauche back in to Paris and then either like you say, get off at Champs Mars station and bus it or take a cab? The bus doesn%26#39;t sound appealing to me for some reason. Maybe I should just make my reservation for Le Train Bleu for another day when we won%26#39;t be in Versailles that day. I was just figuring since we%26#39;ll be taking trains that day to Versailles we could simply wind up in Gare de Lyon easily via connection...

Maybe I can just ask hotel easiest way to get there via metro.

Thanks again for helping me out...

Because you%26#39;re from LA :-)

The buses in Paris are a great way to take a free sightseeing trip. Try it, you%26#39;ll like it.

You can take the train from Versailles-Rive Droite (near the covered market) to Saint Lazare and then just take metro line 14 direc to Gare de Lyon.

|||

That%26#39;s a really long train ride but a viable option.

|||

Actually, if you don%26#39;t care to ride the bus, you could take RER C, transfer at Invalides (ahead of the section with construction) to Metro Line 8 to Madeleine, transfer to Metro Line 14 to Gare de Lyon. Trip would take just under 1 hour.

Best bet is to double check your route on the RATP website just before leaving home, or in Paris if you%26#39;ll have web access.

I, personally prefer the buses to the metro, for the scenery (and not having to deal with hallways, stairs, long walks for correspondences), and traffic is so light on Sundays that the buses are quite speedy.

Actually, my top choice would be RER C to Invalides, then the Balabus to Gare de Lyon - which travels all along the Seine, then over Isle St-Louis, around Place de la Bastille, and on to Gare de Lyon, a beautiful route!

Most overlook the Balabus, because it runs only on Sundays. But, you can%26#39;t go wrong, as the route ends at Gare de Lyon.

That is a really bizarre statement -- Versailles and Paris are the same distance apart no matter which train you take.

Bus 87 only covers a partial route on Sundays. It goes as far as Bastille, which is a short hike to the Gare de Lyon.

There is a replacement bus for the RER C that makes the same stops, so you could just transfer to that at Invalides and get off at the Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz, a short walk to the Gare de Lyon.
