Honfleur vs Giverny

I will be traveling in October with my husband and friends to Normandy. Originally I had planned a night in Honfleur and a night in Giverny leaving the next day to fly home to the States. Then couple we are traveling with does not want to spend one night in one hotel and then the next night in another hotel. They want to spend two nights in Giverny with just a few hours visit to Honfleur.

Any input from anyone? I thought nighttime/evening in Honfleur would be nice.

Would this plan work for you?

1. See Rouen where you can visit the cathedral Monet painted, then drive to Honfleur late afternoon. Enjoy your evening there.

2. Next day, enjoy Honfleur through lunch, then drive to Vernon or wherever you want to stay near Giverney. You might want to see Jumieges Abbey on your way or the cliffs of Etretat (another impressionist site) which are slightly out of the way. We spent the night at Les Andeleys which has a superb ruined castle and the town is beautifully situated on the Seine. Possibly you could visit Giverny last afternoon---I don%26#39;t know what time it closes. (Choose your day carefully, because I think Giverny is closed on Monday.)

3. Next morning, see Giverney first thing. It gets very crowded, so get there as early as possible. Then, head out to your next destination. There are some pretty villages north of Les Andeleys if you need to fill out the day.

I think Honfluer is the place that deserves an overnight stay, not Giverny. Giverny is good for a couple of hours to see Monet%26#39;s Garden. As mentioned, consider Etretat.

I would agree that if you want to spend two nights in one place Honfleur is the place to stay.

Around Honfleur are Deauville-Trouville, Beuvron en auge.

Between Giverny and Honfleur, Chateau Gaillard, Rouen , Jumieges, Vernier Marshes.
