Need help with itinerary, please

My husband and I and another couple are planning a 3 week trip to France next September. One week of that trip we will be in Provence and would like some info on where to base ourselves. We will have a car. Mostly we are interested in small villages and the history of the area. We are thinking of renting a villa (small, inexpensive, charming?) in the village or town where we are based. Hope to just do day trips from our base and just enjoy a Provence experience. We rented a small house in a very small village in Tuscany 2 years ago and it was amazing!! Would like to repeat that in France, if that is possible. Does anyone know of any websites for house rentals? Thanks for any help.

Your best bet is to decide just where you would like to establish your base and then access,via Google, the website for that town or village, as it will certainly have extensive listings and ways to contact owners for house/villa rentals.

Regarding just where to establish your base, I would suggest that you consider St. Remy, as it is a perfect place for exploring virtually all of Western Provence. It is a town with wonderful Roman ruins on its%26#39; outskirts, and is within a reasonable drive of Les Baux (about 15 minutes), and Arles, Nimes, Avignon, the Luberon and even Vaison-la-Romaine and Nyons to the North and the Camrague to the South. If you are seeking a more %26quot;village type%26quot; atmosphere, you might want to check out Maussane-les-Alpilles, which is right next to Les Baux.

I will be back with more questions as the itinerary planning gets more serious!!! We are also going to Normandy and Paris, but not sure yet what order...this is all in the preliminary stages.
