When I was in Paris last week, I saw some groups of people going around on ... what looked like a kind of motorised scooter, but with the two wheels side by side instead of in line, and just a tiny platform to stand on instead of the usual longer one. (as you see, I find it difficult to describe!) I%26#39;d like to google them and find out more, but not knowing what they are called, I%26#39;m a bit stuck!
Can anybody recognise them from my description and help me out?
Thanks!

They are great fun to ride. We took the Fat Tire tour in early June (feels like forever ago!) and had a blast. We didn%26#39;t really need a tour, but the ride sounded fun from reviews here on TA. I%26#39;ve always wanted to ride a Segway, too...
Instead of feeling embarrassed, we felt a little like celebrities -- every time we stopped, people came up to us with a dozen questions (mostly in French).
My favorite part was zipping along the bike path on the right bank between Concorde and the Pont Alexandre at top speed (roughly 12 mph / 20 kph)

I don%26#39;t know why you would feel like an idiot.
The Segways are amazing fun to ride and a terrific way to enjoy the scenery.
I%26#39;m guessing the people you observed were having great fun.

Do the Segway tour! My daughter (16) and I did the tour through Fat Tire Bike tours and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Before the tour you get a lesson - our guide told us that segways are idiot proof and he was right. The segways are very easy to learn to ride - within 30 seconds I was zipping along.

I%26#39;m planning to take the Segway tour in mid-September. Any thoughts on whether the day or evening tour is better? I%26#39;m leaning toward the evening tour but I worry that while trying to see where I%26#39;m going, I might miss some sights. (My night vision isn%26#39;t what it used to be....)
Thanks for any opinions based on your experiences.

I always take the evening tour. I love that you start off in the daylight, enjoy twilight and dusk, then dark when the lights have been turned on all over.
It%26#39;s not so dark that you have to worry about seeing in the dark, and there are lights all over.
