charles de gaulle airport to montmartre

We have a 6 hour layover and would like to spend a couple of hours in Montmartre. What is the best way to get from Charles de Gaulle aiport to Montmartre and back?

thanks-sandra

It will be 45 min or so into the city and same back. If you are flying to the States you need to be at airport 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. before flight. If you have figured this in and really have 6 hrs in the city then it is worth a try.

There is no time to do that in an enjoyable/relaxed way IMO. A taxi would be the only way if you do not arrive at rush hour, and then maybe a metro + RER train on the way back (if your luggage is checked through, if you already have a boarding pass, if security does not slow you down etc.).

Probably the RER B/Métro which departs from Terminal 2. It will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour each direction and cost 8.60€ each direction per person. Be sure to return sufficiently early (arrive CDG 3 hours before departure) so as to be assured you do not miss your departure. I caution about underestimating the time required at CDG.

If all goes well, you%26#39;ll have about 1 to possibly 1½ hours (at the most) at Montmartre.

Assuming your flight lands on time, and your bags are checked through, and you already have boarding passes for your onward flight, you could take the RER to Gare du Nord, then a taxi to Montmartre. You%26#39;d probably want to start at Place du Tertre or Sacre Coeur in Montmarte (and not just tell the driver you want to go to Montmartre). Then, take a taxi back to Gare du Nord and the RER back to CDG.

However, I think you will have to plan on at least an hour and a half to/from CDG in each direction. And, as noted above, you really need to be back at CDG at least two hours before departure.

So, that would leave you approximately one hour to explore Montmartre - assuming everything goes well.

With no traffic in either direction, a taxi may take only half an hour and cost €50-60 each way.

Personally, I would not recommend it. And, if you go anyway - have a contingency plan in place should you miss your flight. A new ticket home will be very expensive!

Do you have other suggestions for us instead of Montmartre that might give us a little feel of Paris without the time crunch? Maybe something closer to the airport?

I%26#39;m bumping this message up.

I am trying to get to Montmartre (specifically rue Lepic), from Charles de Gaulle airport using public transport. I will be bringing a medium-to-large suitcase.

Do you guys recommend this?

So far, all I%26#39;ve got is take RER B from Terminal 2, then get off at Gare du Norde, then take the M4 direction to Port de Clignancourt.

Another question on that is, what kind of ticket do I buy for the RER? If I explained to the person in the RER station using English, will they give me the right ticket?

|||

You go to the airport RER station (follow the signs for trains to Paris) and buy a ticket for central Paris. This is good for any metro or RER station in central Paris, including any necessary line changes.

Then get on the train towards Paris, getting off at Gare du Nord. Follow the very clear signs for metro line 4 towards Porte de Cligancourt, and get on that train. Get off at whichever stop is closest to your hotel.

With so little time, you want the most efficient and fastest transport, which is the RER.

My suggestions is that you drop Montmartre, because no matter what you do, it will take changing lines and/or taxis.

Take the RER straight to St. Michel (about 40 minutes), which is across from Notre-Dame. See Notre-Dame and if time permits walk a bit along the banks of the Seine, or cross over to Île St.Louis which is adorable. Get a big icecream at Berthillon - and take turns kicking each others%26#39; posteriors for not having planned for a few days in Paris !

If you have more time, walk over the Seine to right bank and head for Louvre, just to see the courtyards and get an impression of the overwhelming size of this palace.

Back to St.Michel to catch the RER, only make SURE you take line B3 Aéroport Charles de Gaulle.

If you have 6 hours, and you must be at CDG 2½ hours before take-off, that gives you abour 2 hours in Paris. It%26#39;s doable.

Assuming this is your first time in Paris, of course...... otherwise the Seine, Notre-D. and the Louvre may not be such a big surprise to you !

Great news for you: just checkd the RER timetable at www.ratp.fr

It%26#39;s only the RER%26#39;s which stop at all stations that take 40 mins. to St.Michel - the trains that drive non-stop between Gare du Nord and the airport only take 33 mins. !

That%26#39;s 7 minutes more of Paris. Don%26#39;t laugh. Show me a person with serious PPD who wouldn%26#39;t sell his granny for 7 minutes in Paris ! LOL!
